Specialists Spot Kremlin Scare Operation Against Tomahawk Use

The Kremlin is executing a psychological influence operation of warnings to deter the US from providing long-range missiles to Kyiv, based on analysis from conflict researchers. A high-ranking official stated: “We understand these projectiles very well, their operational characteristics, defensive countermeasures, we encountered them in Middle East operations, so it presents no surprises. Those delivering them and the deploying forces will face consequences … We will identify methods to target those who create problems for us.”

Ukrainian Defensive Operations Developments

Kyiv's troops were causing significant casualties in a counteroffensive in eastern Ukraine, the central battlefield, Volodymyr Zelenskyy reported on midweek. The Ukrainian president's account, derived from a report by his chief of defense, differed from Vladimir Putin's speech before senior Russian officers a previous day in which he claimed Moscow's forces possessed the operational control in all frontline sectors.

According to analysis from early October, conflict monitors said Russia was incurring heavy casualty rates, particularly from Ukrainian drone attacks, in return for limited tactical advances. Defending units, Zelenskyy said, were “protecting our positions along multiple fronts”, highlighting especially northeastern Kupiansk, a heavily damaged city in the northeastern front under heavy Russian assaults for several months.

Regional Conditions

Administrative officials in southern Ukraine of the Kherson oblast said military strikes on Wednesday resulted in three fatalities in and around the urban center of the same name. Local authorities of the Sumy oblast, on the northern border with neighboring Russia, said three individuals were killed in UAV assaults in various areas. Ukraine's air force said it intercepted or jammed 154 out of 183 Russian strike and decoy drones through the evening.

Military action significantly harmed critical infrastructure, government sources stated on midweek. Two employees were injured in the attack, as reported by industry sources. Officials offered no further information, including the site's whereabouts, but Ukrainian authorities said strikes hit energy infrastructure in Ukraine's northern Chernihiv, southern Kherson and eastern Ukraine.

Public Consequences

In the north-eastern Sumy town of the Shostka area, hit hard by the offensive operations against the power supply, local government has established temporary shelters where residents may seek warmth, access hot drinks, charge their phones and access mental health services, based on information from regional head.

Diplomatic Measures

The Ukrainian diplomat to the military alliance on midweek urged NATO members to step up purchases of United States armaments for Kyiv. “The situation isn't that we prefer US equipment instead of European or alternative military systems – the challenge remains that we are requesting the America for systems that European countries don't possess,” said Ukraine's NATO envoy.

Federal law enforcement will soon be allowed to shoot down unmanned aerial vehicles, interior minister said on midweek, following multiple drone sightings suspected as foreign operations to spy and intimidate. Announcing legal changes, the minister said law enforcement would receive permission “to implement sophisticated countermeasures against UAV risks, for example with EMP technology, electronic interference, satellite signal blocking, but also with kinetic methods”.

European Security Issues

European leader stated on midweek that the European Union should strengthen its protective capabilities to deter complex threat operations in response to aerial violations, digital assaults and marine communications interference. “This doesn't represent random harassment. It is a systematic and intensifying operation,” the official said in a address before the European parliament. “A couple of events are random chance, but several, many, frequent – this constitutes a deliberate and targeted hybrid threat strategy against the European Union, and the EU needs to react.”

Humanitarian Conditions

The Swiss authorities has extended its temporary shelter granted to Ukrainian refugees to at least March 2027. Humanitarian status, which enables individuals to journey internationally as well as be employed in Switzerland, is generally limited to a single year but can be renewed. “The decision demonstrates the ongoing unstable environment and continuing offensive operations across extensive regions of the country,” said a official communication. “Despite international peace efforts, a lasting stabilisation that would allow for safe return is not expected in the foreseeable future.”
